Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter) and CEO of SpaceX, has claimed that Starlink is the only high-bandwidth internet system that provides global coverage. He predicts that by next year, Starlink could be responsible for carrying 90% of all space-based internet traffic. Musk made this statement in response to a post by Mario Nawfal on X, which highlighted that there are currently around 6,290 active Starlink satellites providing connectivity in areas where internet access is either unreliable or nonexistent.

Musk responded to Nawfal’s post by stating, “Starlink is the only high-bandwidth Internet system that covers all of Earth. It will probably deliver over 90% of all space-based Internet traffic next year.”

Starlink, a satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, aims to provide internet access to remote and underserved locations around the world. It stands out as one of Elon Musk’s most successful ventures, alongside his leadership at Tesla and his ownership of X.

However, Starlink recently encountered a significant challenge when Brazil’s Supreme Court froze its bank accounts amid an ongoing legal dispute involving X. Musk criticized Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, referring to him as a “dictator” and condemning the court’s actions as “illegal.”

In a related incident, Brazil’s Supreme Court also blocked access to X in the country after the social media platform failed to name a legal representative. The court’s order stated that X would remain blocked until it complied with all legal requirements, including the payment of over $3 million in fines and the designation of a legal representative.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes further ruled that anyone using a VPN to access X in Brazil would face daily fines of 50,000 reais (approximately $8,900 or ₹7,46,621). He accused X of fostering “an environment of total impunity and lawlessness in Brazilian social networks, including during the 2024 local elections,” and criticized Elon Musk for showing “total disrespect for Brazilian sovereignty and, in particular, for the judiciary.” He asserted that Musk was positioning himself as a “supranational entity” above the laws of individual countries.
