Facebook New Feature Released for Campus Students

Facebook is launching a new feature called Campus. It is designed especially for college students. Campus aimed at students who are can interact with peers of the same college through the Facebook app. Facebook is going Nostalgic, as a new feature Campus released for college students.

The main features of the Facebook Campus are Campus-only news feed that will give information and updates to students only within the college. Since profiles on Campus are email-verified, students can also join groups, events specific to their college community.

Students will have two different profiles for Campus and their Facebook account and Campus only lets students within a college interact and is currently rolling out in the United State.

The campus is also interactive as students can become part of group chat rooms, called Campus Chats, relevant to campus life. Students will also have access to a Campus directory that will help them find friends and other students.

The campus is especially significant when students across the globe have adopted remote learning because of COVID 19 situation. The service aims at helping students with new interactions by going back to how Facebook was first started for a college community.

“College is a time for making new friends, finding people who share similar interests and discovering new opportunities to connect – from clubs to study groups, sports, and more,” said Charmaine Hung, product manager of Facebook Campus. “In the early days, Facebook was a college-only network, and now we’re returning to our roots with Facebook Campus to help students make and maintain these relationships, even if they’re away from their college.”

Facebook more data about what the college students are studying and who they’re talking to, which informs its ad targeting decisions. Whose access the Campus features the students will have to provide their .edu email address along with their graduation year and also They all who’s accessed the campus will have to create a separate profile for the Campus section.

The feature is currently available only in 30 universities around the United States, including Johns Hopkins, North-western, University of Louisville, Vassar, and Virginia Tech. These students won’t be able to interact with each other, and neither will students from nearby colleges. For now, the Campus is siloed so that only people who attend the same school can see and interact with each other.
